About the East Mountains, New Mexico Area

ABOUT THE EAST MOUNTAINS:
On the east side of the Great Sandia Mountains is a medley of wonderful communities: Stanley, Galisteo, Paa-ko, Tijeras, Estancia, Edgewood, Cedar Crest, Cerrillos, Sandia Park, Moriarty, Madrid, Golden and Zuzax. Here you can choose your standard of living from a $65,000 home to homes well above $1 million and everywhere in between. While each of these specific towns have their own special feel, all of them share a quieter, slower-paced way of life. The landscapes range from rigorous mountains, inclines brushed with greenery to seemingly endless majestic mesas. The East Mountains areas have quick access to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Albuquerque is located on the west side of the Sandia Mountains less than an hour from the East Mountains areas. Homes are found on larger lots with equestrian ranches and estates available. The East Mountains is also home to one of the nations top golf courses, Paa-Ko Ridge.

We have paraphrased a brief synopsis of the East Mountains' history here for you:
In the late 1800’s, gold, silver, lead and coal, zinc and turquoise mining centered in Golden, Cerrillos and Madrid catalyzed growth in the East Mountains. Outlaws and confederate solders were known to hide out in the area. When the last mine shut down in 1950, the area all but died. In the early 1970’s, artists and craftspeople arrived, converting old company stores and houses into quality shops and galleries. The history and culture of the areas roots can be found the historic mining museum. Now alive with arts, crafts, music, museums and restaurants, the East Mountains is a picturesque reminder of the old west.

Real Estate Tips
Relocation >Enhancing Your Home

A moderate climate can help your home sell, but wherever you live, you can enhance your home's hidden potential by bringing the outside into your home. Minor remodeling projects can be tailored to suit your taste and your budget.

Study the placement of your home on the property. A small window can be made larger to let more light into a room and expand the view. You can create an entertainment area for guests by installing a sliding glass door which opens onto your garden or adding a patio or deck. The addition of a skylight in a dark room can make a dramatic improvement.

You can also consider ways to enhance the outdoor features of your home and integrate them into the living space of your home. Such improvements can often greatly increase the value of your property.
